Just a question that may or may not spark a conversation, at least I hope so.
Is it possible to believe in and/or have faith in humanity rather than a specific religion? Think about it and get back to me.

wow. That's a tough question to answer! There is the question of whether or not it's possible to have faith in humanity at all, much less as a substitute for organized religion. The older I get, the harder it is to do. But, I do have children and dear friends, and a lover who show me every day that it IS possible to believe in humanity... That people can still be innately good.
As to the question of believing in people rather than a religion, I have to assert that I believe it is important to believe in a higher power beyond ourselves in our human flawed state. I'm the daughter of a minister, but even HE is less concerned with whether or not people subscribe to a religion than a fundamental belief in God.
Like I said, a tough question to answer... Belief in humanity, belief in religion? Maybe they don't have to be mutually exclusive.
This is like the age old question of science versus religion and just as I answer you can have beliefs in both for that question, the same applies for me here. Of course, I can only speak from a personal perspective and not for others, but I think that my faith in my religion is what GIVES me faith in humanity. This doesn't mean that all the dogma in organized religion is what defines it for me (in fact, even though I'm a Catholic, I have a lot of issues with the dogmatic principles of the church), it's just the faith I have in God and that He has a time for everything. In my own life, I have witnessed many tragedies, and the only thing that helped me keep my faith in my fellow man, was my faith (I don't like the word "religion" because it sounds too preachy or zealous like people who knock on your door or hand your books to read hahaha). Great blog question, D.
Love ya!
I agree with Mia. Although I come from a non denominational or religious position. . . .I believe FAITH itself is what is most important. Faith in what. . . .??? I don't know. It is different for everyone. I would put money on humanity vs religion to answer your question. I have a saying in my home that gets lots of discussion. . . THIS HOME BELIEVES. That is it. The number one question, "what do you believe?" My answer, ". . .in anything we desire."
